Deanne is a native of Wilkes County and has lived in Washington her entire life. After graduating from Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School as an Honor Graduate, she started and operated several successful businesses. Having an affinity for numbers and mathematics, Deanne gravitated toward the industry her father had flourished in for over forty years…..insurance. After acquiring the education and licensures, Deanne was offered an Office Manager/Producer position in the well-respected Griggs Ficklen Agency. Under her direction, the Agency grew and increased its’ footprint in the community to the point that Deanne was offered an opportunity to purchase the Agency. In 2004, Deanne purchased the very agency she started in and never looked back. Today, Griggs Ficklen Insurance Agency serves thousands of clients in five states….and is in the process of launching a satellite office in Athens, Georgia.
Deanne is a competitive person with an outgoing personality. She started athletics at a young age, following in the footsteps of her mother who was a semi-pro basketball star. Deanne was the first female pitcher to compete in the State Little League Championships. To this day, she is an avid golfer, tennis player, and scuba diver.
Deanne is the mother of one daughter who is aspiring to follow in her footsteps. Miranda is a Senior at Washington Wilkes and is planning to gain her education and join her mother in the agency.
In 2009, Deanne was presented the Pioneer Award by the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce for her commitment to small business leadership with in the community.
Deanne has been a partner in a successful multi-disciplinary medical practice and fully understands the medical environment. She is uniquely qualified to assist in insuring medical providers and facilities with their malpractice and general liability requirements.
Deanne holds P&C, Life and Health licensures in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, and Colorado.
Doug is a Richmond, Virginia native but has enjoyed living in Athens area for most of his life. Doug has enjoyed 12 very successful years in private chiropractic practice where he owned two multi-disciplinary clinics. He has served as President of the Georgia Chiropractic Association and has been a long time member of the Board of Directors.
Doug has always enjoyed the insurance industry and after slowing down his clinical practice schedule, he decided to enter the insurance industry with full force. Doug has a P&C license for Georgia, and specializes in health care professional liability lines and commercial lines. His knowledge of the health care industry from the medical, physical therapy and chiropractic disciplines allows him to counsel providers on the proper coverage necessary in today’s healthcare arena.
Over the years, Doug has really enjoyed an active lifestyle. He really enjoys working out and playing golf, flying, and scuba diving. His wife is the Wellness Director at the Athens YMCA and his three children are spread out through North Georgia College and Jefferson High School.
Melody began her insurance career with Griggs Ficklen Insurance in 2010. She has a Georgia P &C license and specializes in personal and commercial lines. She was promoted to Office Manager in 2012. She represents multiple insurance carriers in our marketplace to fulfill our clients’ needs.
Before joining Griggs Ficklen, Melody worked as a legal secretary. This job taught her the importance of paying attention to detail, and serves her well in the insurance industry today. She was also the co-owner of two small businesses for 30 years. This gave her the perspective to see things from the customer’s point of view.
Melody is a lifetime resident of the Wilkes County area. She lives in Washington with her awesome dog, Luke.
Benjie Edwards began his insurance career in 1980 as an Agent for Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company. His career spanned over 11 years with positions as Agent and Sales Manager servicing their Life, Health, and P&C products. Following his career with Independent Life, Benjie continued his insurance as an Independent Agent for the next 10 years.
In 2001, Benjie joined the Griggs Ficklen Insurance family, focusing on the Life, Group, and Individual Health Services. Benjie is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters and holds Georgia licensure in Life, Health, and P&C. Benjie also graduated from the Advanced Life Underwriter’s Training Council (LUTC) courses on personal, business and disability insurance earning him his LUTCF title.
Outside of the insurance world, Benjie enjoys hunting, golfing, and camping. Benjie attended the University of Georgia’s Business College. He especially enjoys Fall and Dawgs football. Benjie lives in Washington with his wife, Donna.
Hannah is a lifetime resident of Washington-Wilkes. She entered into the Insurance Industry in 2011. She joined our staff at Griggs Ficklen Insurance in August of 2014. She has her Property & Casualty license and specializes in Home and Auto policies.
Before she was a licensed insurance agent, Hannah worked at the local Regions Bank as a Teller. She graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School as an Honor Graduate of the Class of 2006, and was a member of the WW Tiger Marching Band. She has also participated in productions of The Little Theater Co as the lighting technician for “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The Odd Couple”, “My Fair Lady”, and “1940’s Radio Hour”.
Hannah is married to Jay Hendry, from Washington, and they enjoy traveling and going to sporting events.
Linda Aycock has been in the insurance industry since March of 1987, and has a P&C license for the State of Georgia. She graduated from Washington Wilkes High School in 1966. She studied at Bolens Business University and graduated in 1968.
Linda enjoys living in the CSRA with her husband. She is a member of Tignall Independence United Methodist Church.
Wayne Bonertz began his insurance career in 2013 as an agent with Griggs Ficklen Insurance. He holds licensure for Life Insurance and P&C. He specializes in personal and commercial lines. Prior to becoming an insurance agent, Wayne owned a mortgage lending institution in Atlanta, Ga for twenty years.
